K-12 Educators: Attend “China Now,” a Free Workshop on August 9

NCTAN  (North Carolina Teaching Asia Network) and the Carolina Asia Center at UNC Chapel Hill are offering a workshop for K-12 educators on Thursday, August 9, 2018. This free program for educators includes lunch.

Location: The Fedex Global Education Center at UNC Chapel Hill (There is also a site offered at UNC-W for educators in the Wilmington area)

Featured speakers and sessions include:

  • Yixin Chen will discuss China’s recent social changes generated by its rapid economic growth, E-commerce and transportation-centered infrastructure building.  This session will also focus on China’s political problems and its issues in the US-China relationship.
  • Professor Wenyang Sun will give a brief introduction of Chinese philosophy about teaching and learning, followed by an overview and a discussion of the current K-12 education system in China. A specific focus on the challenges and successes in designing curriculum, exploring new educational models and addressing equity issues will be also discussed.
  • North Carolina educators who participated in the World View global study visit to China this summer will share reflections on what they learned and strategies for teaching about China.
  • Resources on teaching about East Asia from NCTAN and the Carolina Asia Center will be provided to participants
