Education Week recently shared pictures and stories about the devastation of Puerto Rico after it was hit by Hurricane Maria. Readers were deeply affected and asked how they could help, and as a result Education Week published a list of ways educators can help from afar:
- Donate cash. The American Federation of Teachers has set up a fund, and Save the Children, United for Puerto Rico and UNICEF are all working to provide relief in Puerto Rico. Before donating, make sure to check Charity Navigator to ensure your funds are being used effectively.
- Donate supplies, or organize a supply drive at your school.
- Adopt a school in Puerto Rico.
- Apply to volunteer once Puerto Rico is ready and stable enough to accept volunteers.
