Teaching Tolerance is offering two daylong professional development workshops in Raleigh this spring. The workshops are for K-12 classroom teachers and administrators or those who work with or coach classroom teachers and administrators.
The cost of each workshop is $35, which covers the workshop materials, breakfast and lunch and a certificate of completion for credit hours. Group rates are available. Space is limited.
Social Justice Teaching 101
March 9, 2018, 8:15 am – 3:30 pm
This workshop helps teachers learn how to effectively implement culturally responsive instruction in their classrooms. Participants will explore practical strategies for accomplishing academic and social-emotional goals side by side. They’ll discuss learning conditions that honor all identities and reflect diversity, equity and justice. And they’ll plan to make culturally responsive practices part of a larger individual, school and community action strategy. Learn more and register here!
Facilitating Critical Conversations
March 10, 2018, 8:15 am – 3:30 pm
This workshop helps teachers learn how to talk openly about the historical roots and the contemporary manifestations of social inequality and discrimination. Participants will explore strategies for facilitating critical conversations with students and colleagues. They’ll engage in personal reflection and examine some commonly held beliefs and biases that influence educators’ abilities to be responsive to all students. And they’ll plan student-centered instruction and investigate ways to teach about implicit bias, race, racism and other critical topics. Learn more and register here!
