I have witnessed the advantage and positive influence that comes with being a [World View] grant recipient. I have had the privilege of discovering how new and additional resources, as well as cultural activities, can impact my courses.
Precious L. Vines is the director of the paralegal technology program at Durham Technical Community College. In addition to her responsibilities as the program director, she also acts as an instructor for online and hybrid courses that currently work with adult learners of various ages and diverse backgrounds.
Not only has Precious attended World View’s last two Community College Symposia, she was also a recipient of a World View North Carolina Global Distinction (NCGD) Curriculum Grant this academic year. Through this program, World View offers community college educators a grant funded by various UNC National Resource Centers. This grant is meant to assist community college faculty in creating global modules, a self-contained unit that contains global content, for the courses that they teach. With this grant Precious has been able to establish a rich career skill-set for her paralegal students by integrating diverse resources into her lesson modules. When reflecting on how the NCGD Curriculum Grant has played a role in her teaching Precious said, “I have witnessed the advantage and positive influence that comes with being a grant recipient. I have had the privilege of discovering how new and additional resources, as well as cultural activities, can impact my courses.”
As part of the NCGD Curriculum Grant program Precious also visited UNC-Chapel Hill for a research day. She plans to use the tools and resources shared with her by UNC-Chapel Hill faculty to continue to explore how easy and valuable it can be to globalize her courses. This work has not only impacted Precious professionally, but has also lead her students to be engaged in global thought and action as well. This spring semester she will be teaching the two courses she has been working on (LEX 150 – Commercial Law and LEX 220 – Corporate Law) and we at World View are excited to learn more about the rich content Precious’ students will learn this spring!
