Teachers who have the opportunity to attend World View are more globally-focused. Their mindset has shifted to a global readiness that I do not consistently see in schools where educators don’t attend World View.

This month World View would like to highlight and thank educator and World View Partner Liaison Sheri Golden Perry for all that she has done to advance global learning. Sheri is a senior administrator in the Office of Innovative Programming, Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Programs for Wake County Public Schools. She has served in this office for almost six years and currently works with Wake County’s global studies and International Baccalaureate schools, including language immersion and world language schools. Prior to her role in the central office, Sheri was an assistant principal in Wake County.

By sending teams of educators in her district to World View’s fall and spring programs, Sheri has supported the professional learning of dozens of teachers and administrators. She also brings her global school and magnet coordinators to World View programs so that they can work together in meaningful ways, sharing information and practice. Sheri encourages her educators to attend programs in teams, so that peers can work together to make change in classrooms and schools.

Five years ago, Sheri felt that she had to inform educators about World View and the value of the World View professional development programs. Now when she offers support to attend a program she is met with great enthusiasm. Over the last couple of years, Sheri has seen the excitement that World View participation has ignited in her district and has noticed an improvement in the quality and depth of global education in her network of schools. “Teachers who have the opportunity to attend World View are more globally-focused. Their mindset has shifted to a global readiness that I do not consistently see in schools where educators don’t attend World View.”

Sheri will continue to support the development of global competencies in Wake’s educators. She will also look for ways to support educators pursuing the NC Global Educator Digital Badge and will seek opportunities for educators to find success on the NC educator evaluation system, particularly Standard IIb and Standard IIIc, knowing that World View can help her meet these goals.
