World View supports – in the true sense of the word – me in my goal to bring globally-minded curriculum and the very best teaching practices to my students, colleagues and district.
Tsianina Tovar is an ESL teacher at West Buncombe Elementary; the school’s 600 students speak eight different languages and represent 11 different countries. Approximately 13 percent are English language learners, and around 25 percent speak another language at home. As a North Carolina Global Educator, Tsianina strives to “continues to develop curriculum that targets global competencies while meeting the state and language standards for language learners.”
Tsianina is a graduate of World View’s 2018 Global Education Leaders Program. The intensive professional development she received has made her “more intentional in selecting resources that represent other cultures and countries.” She is a Buncombe County Schools Global Ambassador—an instructional leader who serves as a liaison to build global capacity within the school and district—and has made a commitment to help fellow teachers incorporate global resources into their classrooms. “World View has provided me with a wealth of resources and my global toolbox has grown exponentially. I am now able to help teachers tap into these resources for themselves.”
When working with curriculum, Tsianina says she often thinks, “How can we globalize that?” and a resource from World View pops into her head. “World View supports – in the true sense of the word – me in my goal to bring globally-minded curriculum and the very best teaching practices to my students, colleagues and district.” Tsianina’s Global Educator Digital Badge Capstone project is a State Exemplar, and she continues to make a positive impact on her colleagues and students.
