The North Carolina State Board of Education and the NC Department of Public Instruction recognized Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) as a Global-Ready District at the prepared level on February 1, 2017. CMS was one of the first two districts in the state to earn the designation. At the prepared level, the district effectively implements systems and processes to support global readiness. Many components of global education are embedded district-wide and there are sound, well-embedded practices showing positive impact on students.
“We are very proud to be a Global-Ready District,” said Superintendent Ann Clark. “This designation recognizes our longstanding commitment to preparing our students for success in a diverse, globally linked workplace and world. That commitment is expressed in our curriculum and focus on teaching world languages, cultural knowledge and sensitivity, and how to succeed in a 21st-century workplace.”
CMS has been actively engaged with global education in the state and World View is proud to partner with them to advance global education. In fact, CMS has the State’s first designated Global-Ready School. Piedmont Middle School received the Global-Ready School Designation at the prepared level in the fall of 2015 and East Mecklenburg High School received the same designation in the fall of 2016. East Mecklenburg High School was the first high school in the state to earn the designation. Additionally, central office staff and teachers representing four learning communities and seven schools across the district are currently pursuing the Global Educator Digital Badge recognition at the state level.
“One of the benefits of pursuing this designation is that it helps us prepare our next steps to become even stronger in global preparation,” Clark said. “We are already beginning to strengthen and improve our programs and practices so that we can move to the top-level designation as a model district. The rigorous evaluation by DPI has helped us identify opportunities for improvement, as well as areas already successful.”
