The Council Scholar Award Program, a program of The World Affairs Council of Charlotte, is designed to annually reward a few outstanding educators, grades K-12, in the community who have demonstrated a commitment to international education.

If you are an internationally-minded teacher or administrator who is currently working to provide a global perspective in your classroom, have a desire to immerse yourself in an international topic or region and are enthusiastic about sharing your experience with your students and colleagues, apply today. Applicants must be K-12 grade teachers or staff members with significant student contact in a Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Lincoln, Gaston or Union County school (public or independent schools).

Applications must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. They may be emailed (PDF or Word file), mailed or hand delivered to the World Affairs Council of Charlotte office.

The Council Scholar Program not only gives the recipient visibility and recognition, but also provides rewarding educational experiences. The 2018-2019 Council Scholars will receive:

  • Recognition at the 2019 World Citizen Award Dinner
  • Invitations to special Council programs and dinner receptions and lifetime Council membership
  • The opportunity to coordinate seminars and roundtable discussions with past scholars and experts for curriculum development, content enrichment, classroom resources and professional interaction
  • A scholarship of up to $2500 for study abroad or international conference attendance
