This program is designed for North Carolina educational leaders, specifically K-12 superintendents and community college presidents or their designees.

The program begins on Sunday, February 23, 2020 and ends on Friday, February 28, 2020.

  • Participants must arrive at Dublin International Airport (DUB) on or before the morning of Sunday, February 23
  • Participants can depart from DUB on or after Saturday, February 29

The cost of the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020, including an orientation in January 2020, the 6-day study visit to Ireland and program materials is $1,500.00. Airfare is NOT included.

The fee includes:

  • Registration to and meal at the pre-orientation dinner
  • All ground transportation during the program (not including airport transfer)
  • All hotel (6 nights) accommodations, which are based on double or greater occupancy
  • Some meals in Ireland
  • Supplemental UNC-Chapel Hill Study Abroad international accident and sickness insurance
  • All education, cultural and historical activities, excluding independent activities
  • General gratuities

What should I expect from the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020?

This program is designed for North Carolina educational leaders, specifically K-12 superintendents and community college presidents or their designees. The program will begin with a thorough orientation; participants will then visit schools, colleges, significant historic and cultural sites and global businesses connected to the state of North Carolina. Round table discussions will be planned with international educators and best practices will be shared in a variety of leadership areas. By building a cohort of global education leaders who have experienced a study visit with direct ties to North Carolina, World View participants will foster a pipeline of students K-14 who are prepared for the opportunities and challenges of today’s world.

What is the objective of the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020?

The objective of the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad is to build capacity among North Carolina K-12 and community college leaders. By participating in this program, leaders will see the value of preparing students to be globally engaged citizens who are career- and college-ready for the 21st century. This unique experience will allow educational leaders to experience first-hand North Carolina as a global state by underscoring economic and cultural ties to Ireland.

What are the physical requirements of the trip?

Participants on this trip must be in good health. Participants are expected to carry their own luggage and do some walking.

Do I need a passport? Do I need a visa?

Each participant must have a passport that is valid at the time of entry and at least 1 blank passport page for an entry stamp. Should there be insufficient blank pages in your passport, entry into the country could be denied. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months after the return date. All participants must send a clear digital image of the first page of their passport by January 15, 2020 Passport applications can take months to process. If you do not currently have a passport, you should apply for one immediately: TRAVEL.STATE.GOV/CONTENT/TRAVEL/EN.HTML Participants do not need a tourist visa for stays less than 90 days.

How do I apply for the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020?

To apply, please complete an application and send in your $500 deposit by November 15, 2019.

When will I know if I am accepted to the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020?

The application deadline is November 1, 2019, or until filled. Participants will be accepted on a rolling basis.

What preparation and information will be provided before the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020?

All participants are required to attend an orientation dinner in Chapel Hill. During the orientation, participants will receive additional details about the trip. Between the orientation and study visit, participants will receive regular emails from leaders.

What will I have to pay for on the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020?

The cost of the Global Education Leaders Program, including orientation dinner, a 6-day study visit to Ireland is $1500. There is an additional charge of $750 if you prefer a single room while traveling to Ireland. Cost excludes the following:

  • Airfare to and from Ireland
  • Passport application or renewal charges
  • Travel to and from departure airport in North Carolina
  • Baggage fees
  • Trip cancellation or baggage insurance
  • Meals on international travel days plus a few additional lunches and dinners (final number TBD)
  • Supplemental excursion activities and personal and incidental expenses (including alcohol)
  • Travel and accommodations for the orientation in January 2019
What vaccinations do I need for the Global Education Leaders Program Abroad, Ireland 2020?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that travelers to Ireland are up to date on all routine immunizations and visit a doctor 4-6 weeks before traveling. Please see the CDC website for additional recommendations.  Please check with your medical provider if you have questions or concerns.

What if I want to stay longer or arrive earlier than the group?

Participants are permitted to travel to Ireland prior to the schedule start of the program or could stay in Ireland after the program officially concludes. World View is not responsible for the participants during those periods.
