2018 Global Education Leaders Program

World View’s Global Education Leaders Program brings together current and aspiring leaders from K-12 schools, districts and community colleges for an intensive examination of global issues that impact students and their communities.

Dominican Republic: Legacies of the Past in Today’s Dominican Republic

Educators will learn about Colonial Americas and the legacy of the trans-Atlantic slave trade; the Dominican Republic’s public and private educational systems and practices; and apply concepts of women’s rights in Dominican society and culture to instruction.

Costa Rica

March through October 2019; Travel dates to Costa Rica are July 17-26, 2019 | The Costa Rica Global Study Visit Program includes a two-day spring seminar with orientation, a 10-day study visit to Costa Rica and a follow-up workshop.

China: Traditions, Trends and Transformations

In spite of rapid transitions due to globalization and geopolitical forces, China maintains one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations. China’s complexity, diversity and shifting role in global affairs present extraordinary opportunities for learning.

South Africa

Educators will learn from communities in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town; explore the educational system; examine the contemporary impact of historical events through the lens of Apartheid; and engage in critical self-reflection.

Costa Rica and Nicaragua

Educators will experience a culture, country and people different from their own. In addition to the Spanish language, educators will learn about and compare Costa Rica and Nicaragua’s education systems, development and environmental issues.

East Asia: Traditions, Trends and Transformations

Through plenary talks and small group sessions, K-12 and community college educators will explore East Asia’s history, culture, diversity, contemporary affairs and changing role in the world.

Building Stronger Bridges: Cultural Respect and Equity in the Classroom

Through plenary talks and small group breakout sessions, K-12 and community college educators will explore issues of cultural respect and equity, learning what barriers need to be removed and what strategies can be implemented to recognize the potential for all learners.

Human Rights and Social Justice

Our global education symposium in Chapel Hill will feature short plenary talks and sessions on human rights issues to increase awareness of human rights and social justice issues and to provide pedagogical strategies and resources for integrating human rights and social justice issues into teaching.
